Presentation Prep

Students had the whole period to prepare for our presentations tomorrow.

MC & Work Time

After going over the multiple choice from the last test (finally), groups had some time to work on their presentations. We'll keep working tomorrow and start first thing on Friday.

Theme & Presentations

After discussing theme and some of the questions brought up in yesterday's whip around, students began the presentation project. Handouts and assignments are at our class page.

Wrapping Up Reading 1

We began the day with a quick quiz on acts 4 and 5 and then shared the homework and some general thoughts about the play. I finally collected writer's notebooks in period 3.

Act 3

After looking at a quotation and talking about a few points of clarification, groups did their Act 3 Synopses. Finish the play over your long weekend.

Act 2

Today we talked about act 2, sharing headlines and quotations. Act 3 tomorrow!

Act 1

After a quick look at Shakespeare's structure, we reviewed the main characters and groups met to finish the first DJ entry.

Shakespeare!

Today we talked a bit about Shakespeare, his comedies, and As You Like It. Notes are at our Class Page. At the end of the period I collected writer's notebooks.
Students should read all of Act 1 for homework tonight (see #1 below).

Invisible Man Timed Essay

After a quick reflection on the last two days' Socratic Seminar, we did a bit of multiple choice practice and had the IM timed essay

Socratic Seminar, Day 2

Today we finished up our Socratic Seminar and our look at Ellison's Invisible Man. The study guide is due tomorrow before the timed essay.

Socratic Seminar, Day 1

Today we started our final discussion of Invisible Man which took the form of a Socratic Seminar. Students should prepare for tomorrow's continuation of the seminar by reviewing their self-evaluation sheets and taking some notes on the questions below.

Epilogue & Explication

Thursday & Friday (posted Sunday)

Thursday we spent the day presenting the poem work from Tuesday. After wrapping this up Friday, we had a quick exit ticket, followed by a quiz on chapter 25 of Invisible Man, and wrapped up the day with a quick circle  to talk about the end of the book (almost). Students should read the Epilogue and reread the prologue for class on Monday.

Monday & Tuesday

Monday we spent the day considering Rinehart and what he teaches IM. Tuesday, we started the second of our quick poetry projects. Slides are at Unified Classroom.

Poetry Presentations

After a quick quiz, we spent most of the period on poetry presentations and a bit discussing the chapters. Keep reading!
