POL, Poetry MC, & Revision
Today we spend a few minutes wrapping up POL with a few more recitations and a bit of reflection. Students spent the rest of the period on the Unit 5 MC practice at College Board and beginning the revision process on their essays. MOre revision tomorrow.

POL, Essay Drafts, and Ashland
After wrapping up Poetry Out Loud, we talked about the essay (drafts due Monday) and the AP Ashland trip. The first 13 students to get me deposits or notes of commitment on Monday morning will get spots; then the waiting list starts.

Three Days
On Monday we spent the day in the computer lab reviewing the Unit 2 poetry test on the College Board My AP site. Afterward, students had a bit of work time.
On Tuesday, we prepped for POL presentations with some practice in the library.

POL Practice & Some Essay Time
Today after going over the POL practice log and expectations, we spent the rest of the period drafting the POL Essay. Slides are here and the handout is here. Drafts are due 12/16.

Scoring Practice & Essay Prep
Today we went over the POL rubric and then practiced using it on a few models (these are linked to the slideshow at PS Unified Classroom). We wrapped up having a look at an essay prep handout which students should finish for homework.

Tone, Pacing, and Essay Planning
After a bit of tone mapping practice with "Jenny Kissed Me," we worked on pacing with some recordings of Hamlet. Students should start annotating their own recitation scripts as detailed on today's handout. We wrapped up the day thinking a bit about our next essay.

After wrapping up our monologue discussion with some claims, we did a bit of thinking and writing about German philosopher Hegel's (1770-1831) interpretation of the play, followed by an interesting round of philosophical chairs.

Today we continued our short story unit and transitioned into our study of The Awakening with a look at Chopin's "The Story of an Hour." Students annotated and responded to the questions below, then groups shared ideas and started on the one-page graphic organizer (also below).

Today groups presented on their critical lenses from yesterday. Then we took our first crack at an assessment at the College Board website. Absent student and students who weren't able to finish today should log in and finish over the weekend.
